It is official residence of the Catholicos and the administrative Centre of the Church. The mortal remains of holy fathers Baselius Geevarghese II, Baselius Augen I, Baselius Mar Thoma Mathews I and Metropolitan Thomas Mar makarios are entombed here. A portion of the holy relics of the Apostle St.Thomas is kept inside the chapel.
